WHO WILL STAND IN THE GAP?
We can get very busy with our day-to-day activity which isn’t necessarily bad; these are important things that make demands upon our time. It is a challenge to set aside time to read our Bibles, run our youth groups, attend leadership meetings and run our cell groups, before we know it the day has begun and ended with little if any meaningful time in prayer with God. We are challenged as was Ezekiel that God is looking for someone who would stand in the gap for others, someone who will put their wish list aside when they come to Him in prayer and intercede for those who are yet to know Him. Ezek.22ff
The thrust of God’s remarks to Ezekiel is that had someone done so, the calamity upon the nation by His hand could have been averted. What a challenge! What a responsibility! Will we rise to be the one who will stand in the gap for our work colleagues, school friends, peers and family?
Men may spurn our appeals, reject our message, oppose our arguments, despise our persons; but they are helpless against our prayers. — J. Sidlow Baxter
