POWER OF REPENTANCE
The Holy Spirit has been talking to me today about the power of repentance. Yesterday l lectured on the book of Acts, and noted the role of the Holy Spirit in bringing judgment on Ananias & Sapphira, as they misrepresented, and lied to the Apostles; and yet Peter is emphatic that they in fact lied to God Himself.
He showed me how the opportunity was put forward for Sapphira to not follow in misrepresenting / lying to God; and yet she chose to follow in the footsteps of another, rather than stand for truth. She had been given the perfect opportunity to repent from going down that path. But she didn’t appreciate that God knows the intentions of our hearts and that whilst she could fool man, she could not fool God. She could have had life, but chose death.
The LORD showed me, that we can hamstring our ministry by not repenting! We won’t drop dead like Ananias or Sapphira, but we will put a ceiling on what God wants to do in us and through us. Pride prohibits repentance. Pride stands in antitheses to humility. The Spirit of God taps us on our shoulder, convicts us, and we should be prompt to repent, either before Him privately or if our sin has affected another, to that person.
Repentance is powerful it releases us to move forward in the plan of God.
